My name is Ray – I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I am a programmer, electronics engineer, blogger, tinkerer, maker. My motto is “Learn something new everyday”. The internet is the biggest interactive library ever built and you can learn anything from it at a faster pace than any other resource available.
I do my best to stay current and connected socially with others in my life of geekery. This side of my life is very diverse and is constantly changing. I focus mainly on programming and do hardware hacking in my spare time. I have over 10 years experience in multiple disciplines across different languages such as PHP, JavaScript, Ajax, HTML, CSS, XML/XSLT, Bash, Python, SQL – all of which I have earned and proved the title “Expert”. I am highly experienced with Linux server administration and have been actively using Linux since 2001. I’m most comfortable behind the command line. MySQL is my database of choice for most things. I am also learned in database performance tuning.
I am learning Java as I write android apps for mobile phones. I am learning C/C++ and assembler as I program microcontrollers for my electronic hobbies.
On a daily basis I manage multiple dedicated servers for my clients with high traffic load. I build and maintain many popular web sites and provide awesome technical solutions. I work hard and give 110%. This keeps my clients happy and makes me a winner. I also have over 10 years experience in computer repair – which comes in handy all the time.
In my spare time, I enjoy helping others solve programming issues because it forces me to encounter and solve a wide range of problems. This is one way I learn efficiently.
Just like everyone else, I need an outlet to stay sane.
On my time off I do things like play radio controlled cars/trucks/planes, or playing first-person shooter games, or just sitting back watching movies (sci-fi,war,westerns,action,documentary). I own an electric guitar that I sometimes dust off and play. What I prefer the most is to go outside and ride around the desert on a quad. I sometimes do metal detecting in the cooler months and blog about it here.
The music I mostly listen to is vocal trance on di.fm. Vocal Trance is dance and techno mixed with vocals. Its upbeat & relaxing. Its the 120 bpm that keeps my mind focused when I am working or studying. I also listen to classical music of many great composers.
I love to cook. Making a meal from scratch is not just tastier and healthier than ordering out, it can be a therapeutic activity. Everybody likes my cooking. Makes me wonder sometimes if I was destined to be a chef.
You may send me something from my Amazon Wish List if you feel so inclined.
